Reinforcement
I used two 1/4" x 2" flat aluminum strips (as recommended by Fisher Beavertail) to provide reinforcement to the transom for each pod, and used eight 3/8" bolts to secure each pod to the transom. On the starboard side, I also drilled and countersunk four holes and installed flat head screws (#1) to provide mounting points for my bilge pump and float swithch. The heads of these screws are flush with the back side of the reinforcing strip allowing the strip to mount flush against the transom. These screws do NOT go through the transom. I was careful to mark each reinforcement strip to make sure I got the strip back in the same position so the holes would line up properly when I was ready to install the pods with the sealant.
