Teaching Experience
I have been teaching private saxophone lessons since 1993. Along with saxophone I teach clarinet and flute; as well as acoustic, electric, and bass guitar. During the summer of 2004 I began teaching summer band lessons for the North-Linn Community School district. This includes lessons on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.
In 1998 I was asked to be the first student conductor of the Luther College Jazz Band II. With the assistance of Professor Tony Guzman, I conducted the band in rehearsals and concerts. It was here that I refined my rehearsal techniques.
In the fall of 1999 I was Co-Conductor of the University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band III. I was responsible for programming and rehearsing half of the ensemble’s music. In addition I coached a student jazz combo and supervised saxophone and trumpet section rehearsals.
In 2001 and 2002 I was asked to be a guest artist for the Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band. As a guest artist, I gave a one-week clinic focusing on jazz history and improvisation. In addition, I conducted the saxophone section rehearsals and assisted with the big band rehearsals. I also performed with the group as a guest soloist.
